The idea behind these booklets was to produce a set of illustrated poems each with its personal envelope
for sending to a friend as a gift . This idea has been used by various publishers notably by Faber and Faber
in the Fifties with their series called Ariel Poems. The current illustrators used at that time were
Edward Bawden, David Jones, John piper, Lynton Lamb, Michael Ayrton, Edward Ardizzone among others.
I have a small collection of these early booklets which can be picked up today at around £25 plus.
The price in the Fifties was 2 shillings. 10 pence in today's money.
